A gas-fired heat shrink gun (also called a propane shrink wrap gun or shrink wrap heat gun) is a handheld tool used to apply heat to shrink film or wrap tightly around objects, often for packaging, insulation, or weatherproofing. It operates using combustible gas—usually propane or butane—as its energy source.
Our Shrink-It are manufactured right here in the Uk and we can supply parts for your gas fired heat shrink gun and new heat shrink systems from stock. Our most popular propane fired heat shrink gun can be found here.
How It Works
-
Connection and Start-up:
-
The gun is connected to a propane tank via a hose and regulator.
-
When the trigger or valve is opened, propane flows through the hose to the gun.
-
-
Ignition:
-
The built-in igniter (manual or automatic) creates a spark, igniting the propane-air mix at the burner head.
-
This creates a controlled flame inside the burner.
-
-
Heat Generation:
-
The combustion produces hot air (typically 500–1,100°F / 260–600°C), which is channelled through a special nozzle.
-
The nozzle is designed to spread heat evenly over a wide area.
-
-
Application:
-
When directed at shrink wrap film, the heat causes the material to shrink tightly around the object.
-
The wrap conforms to the shape, providing a secure and protective layer.
-
✅ Advantages
-
Heats up quickly and delivers high heat output.
-
Doesn’t require electricity (useful on job sites or outdoors).
-
Effective for large or irregular shapes.
⚠️ Safety Considerations
-
Always use in a well-ventilated area.
-
Keep flammable materials away from the nozzle.
-
Use proper protective gear (gloves, eye protection).
-
Never point it at people or animals.
